Cooperation, partnership and market pull
Since 2010 the Annual Summits have paved the way for climate neutral, lowest cost and secure energy from the MENA Deserts. Building on the urgent call to meet net-zero targets at the 2023 summit, the 14th Dii Desert Energy Leadership Summit returned to Europe after several years in MENA.
Under the clean energy theme ‘TRILLIONS FOR TRIPLING – Cooperation, partnership and market pull’, last year’s edition put the spotlight on MENA’s efforts to triple renewables and energy efficiency by 2030. It concentrated on energy production, conversion, transport, trade, and end-use with net or sub-zero emissions, with a special emphasis on the close ties between MENA and the EU.
The 14th Dii Summit united the leaders of the energy transition, providing a forum to discuss issues, challenge the status quo, and shape clean energy together in inspiring venues throughout Vienna.
We still have a way to go to meet the global target of net-zero, and serious commitment is needed, including drastic cuts in fossil subsidies and carbon pricing, but these innovations and new connections will enable a faster energy transition.
The summit is part of Dii’s wider roadmap to accelerate the energy transition in the Arab world, connecting regions, people, and continents that share Dii’s mission: ‘No Emissions!’
Session Highlights
Vienna is a highly symbolic place for partnerships: the gateway to Eastern Europe and centre of the Southern import route for zero emission energy and every year, the Dii Summit is held in prestigious venues, and this year was no different. Our three-day programme convened a global dialogue among industry leaders and experts from the Arab world and Europe to unveil industry trends and innovations to scale up green electrons and molecules projects.
